International settlement setup on Mars
First commercial company setups in astroid belt. This is the begining of the asteroid rush. Mining companies rush to explot the vast mineral wealth held in the belt. Those first companies at the belt grow to a massive size dwarfing all other companines.
Just beyond Pluto, a large circular metal object is found orberting the Sun. When it is approached it opens up what is thought to be a gate. Though where to is unknown
Seeing an opportunity NoVid a small mining company decideds to send a exploration ship through The Gate. Hoping to be the first to gain any advantage. This leads to the Great Gate Rush.
The Great Gate Rush
Companies, countries, even religious groups rush to send spacecraft through The Gate. Fearing on missing out on any possible riches. Thousands upon thousands of craft of various builds and reasons try to traverse The Gate.
The last of the Great Gate Rush spacecraft is sent. No word or return of any of the craft that had been through The Gate dulled people’s enthusiasm to take that giant leap. There is still the odd nutter with mad hopes that try their luck. But mainly Gate travel is reduced to exploratory drones as humanity tries to understand The Gate.
The Break Though
Scientists working on The Gate finally cracked the code to work the machine. It was a gateway that could be used to traverse the Universe through a plane the builders referred to as the void.
The Gate: A Turret Defence Game
You are the Captain of a starship that has been sent through The Gate with the mission to find out what had happened to a previous starship sent through The Gate during the Great Gate Rush. They are believed to have arrived at this system. Use your resources on board your ship to build a settlement, and find out the fate of the previous ship.
You will need to work your way across levels to settle the system, with the levels based on turret defence games. The key is you only have the resources onborad your ship, so your aim is to win the level using the minimal amount of resources possible.
As Captain, you will represent a particular faction either a company, nation, or religion. The faction will affect the amount and variation in resources your ship carries, engineering prowess, and the special abilities you have available to you. The faction may be good with explosives so missile towers are cheaper, or maybe your ship carries an orbital gun which you can use when overhead the level.
The game is inspired by a game I used to play as a kid called Mega Lo Mania on my Amiga 500 that I had at the time. here your starting resource was people but you need to save up the people from lower levels otherwise the higher levels could not be completed.
